Portrait of Parsnips & Poppies proprietor, Jenelle, a botanically-based artist and urban homesteader.

Hey! My name is Jenelle.

I’m the artist behind Parsnips & Poppies. Thanks for stopping by my lil’ online shop. And for taking a moment to learn a lil’ more about me and where I make my art!

I am a botanically-based artist and permaculture-practicing homesteader living in a paradise known as The Great Pacific Northwest. My home, and daily artistic inspiration, is a fifth-acre urban homestead in Portland, Oregon where I live with my spouse, our pup, and three chickens.

My garden, and the food we grow, are a constant source of inspiration for my art. And my love for mixing my own soil amendments or a homegrown herb dressing can only be matched by my love of mixing paints.

The part of our homesteading lifestyle that I appreciate most, is the inherent season of rest it provides each year. As the temperatures cool, the skies get grey, and the garden goes mostly dormant, it becomes easier to focus the mind on indoor endeavors, such as painting and illustration, once again.

I have been an artist all my life. A maker since around middle school. A painter for most of my adult life. And an enamel pin designer since 2021.

The collection of enamel pins available in my shop are based on a series of small, daily gouache illustrations I created for a 100-day art challenge. Thanks to some pretty otherworldly magical processes over at Wizard Pins, I'm able to transform my original paintings into a collection of real-world enamel pins. And, then, I have the great pleasure of sharing them with all of you!

So thanks, again, for stopping by! For supporting my small business. And for wearing and sharing my pins with all your favorite foodies, farmers, gardeners, and growers!

“What’s with all the rainbows ‘round here? Well, simply put, I love color. All the colors. I’m kind of obsessed actually.”
